Pierre‑Rigaud Chéry is one of the most influential figures in contemporary Haitian music. Born in 1955, he has spent more than twenty‑five years shaping the Haitian musical landscape as a virtuoso guitarist, arranger, composer, and cultural ambassador.

Deeply inspired by Brazilian popular music especially bossa nova as well as jazz, modern harmony, and progressive folkloric traditions, Chéry has developed a refined and expressive musical language.

He is the founder of two major groups: Piti Piti (1987), a beloved children’s music ensemble whose influence extended beyond Haiti’s borders.

Marasa, a more experimental project exploring fusion, identity, and sonic innovation.

With over 200 compositions, Chéry has collaborated with numerous renowned artists and contributed significantly to the evolution of modern Haitian music.

He is also the creator of two original musical rhythms Ranova and Kongoba showcasing his innovative approach to blending tradition with contemporary expression.

Today, he serves as the General Coordinator of the National Institute of Music of Haiti (INAMUH), where he plays a key role in preserving and promoting Haiti’s musical heritage.
